Tonight we finally made it over to the Living Planet Aquarium.
It's about time, since I've always wanted to see how great of an aquarium it really is. And the fact that I live a few blocks from it and drive past it nearly every day.
Verdict: Meh.
Fun for the kids, but not really what I expected. I thought it'd be overwhelming with exhibit after exhibit of sea life. Instead it's got great expanses between exhibits, and is somewhat underwhelming.
But it's the best we've got around, and since a season pass only cost $18, I figured I'd become an annual member.
Kaeden will be happy we'll be returning.
Of course we had to snap a quick picture for the wedding montage. And what kid doesn't enjoy posing on a giant frog?
Jane had been to the aquarium before, so Kaeden sort of looked to her for direction.
The two together did not disappoint.
But while the tanks were filled with huge weird looking fish like this:
Kaeden was only interested in the minutest of details:
I can't wait for the day when he discovers that there is much more going on in that tank.
Kade also really enjoyed the brine shrimp tracking boat.
He held on to the back of that thing for awhile and refused to let go.
I know his Uncle Chuck will be happy that he's got a strong grip, but I had to whisper in his ear that the boom is usually on the side of the boat. Not the back. Oh the things to learn before he's an official bare-footer.
The aquarium also has a neat sting ray exhibit. There's a long shallow pool that the kids can walk up to and touch the sting rays (manta rays? I don't know).
It was pretty cool, and the sting rays actually seemed to like the attention. They'd troll around the pool almost beckoning the kids to give them a poke.
Jane was surprisingly adventurous when it came to the rays:
Me? Not so much.
Meredith snapped this picture right as I turned around to say, "Is it ridiculous that I don't dare to touch it?"
Yes. Yes it is.
Even more pathetic?
Using your child's hand as a barrier between you and the creature.
I am a wuss with all things that lurk underwater. No matter how irrational it might be.
Highlight of my night?
Meredith speaking like Flotsam and Jetsam and saying, "C'mon Ariel. All we want is your voice!" While staring at this guy.
Classic.

Have I told you lately how freaking adorable K is? I just want to snuggle him!!
G just met her first fish tank and was quite taken. But Im more your speed and would probably be yawning 3 minutes into it.
BUT. if it entertains the kids... Im all for it.
LOVE the Little Mermaid reference. I literally said it aloud myself in my best floatsem voice. I rated it an 8... casey gave me a 3.
I'm sad you were dissapointed. I thought you enjoyed our time together more than that. J/K I know its not the best but hey we live in Utah what do you expect. You got some cute pictures. Thanks for journaling for me as well since I suck at it. Love you!
