Ladies Man

Yesterday I snapped and decided I just can't do this "Grow-Kaeden's-Hair-Out" thing any longer.

There is just something about my clean cut little boy that I absolutely love.

Long hair?  I feel like my kid looks slightly homeless.

I called Jeff and asked how upset he'd be if I cut it, and when he didn't immediately put up an fight, I took it as the green light to go!

Now before you start judging me and thinking I'm crazy because this before picture does not look bad at all, let me tell you: I agree.

For whatever reason, when I decided to take a before pic, his hair decided to lay all perfectly and look pretty tolerable [if not adorable].

And I second guessed my decision to cut it.

But in reality,

THIS is how it usually looks:

Crazy hair on a crazy boy.

The kid just has so much hair.

And when it gets to that awkward stage of growing out, my hand starts twitching and reaching for my shears.

A couple of haircuts ago, we learned what a miracle Great Clips $6.99 haircut specials are.

Instead of it taking me about an hour to give Kaeden a marginal cut,

it takes the masters at Great Clips about 10 minutes from start to finish.

Needless to say, Kaeden is a fan of that.

Today when I decided to take him in for a haircut, I was expecting him to put up a fight and to have to battle his anxiety about it, but he agreed pretty easily.

When we got the salon, he was still pretty happy about it until a harsh looking lady checked us in.

We sat down in the waiting area, and Kaeden looked at me with his big eyes and with a shaky voice whispered, "Mommy, I don't want that lady to cut my hair."

I laughed.

And explained that I didn't know who was going to cut it.

Lucky for us, it was a cute young blonde who got Kaeden as a client.

And boy did she do a good job at getting Kaeden out of his shell.

Where he usually sits shy and quiet, he was answering all her questions, counting to thirty for her, telling her about his TWO girlfriends [?], and explaining that he wanted his hair styled into a faux-hawk.

Seriously?

The highlight of my day was when the stylist stepped away for a minute right before Kaeden's cut was complete.  I watched Kaeden grinning big at himself in the mirror and then he exclaimed out loud, "Mom!  I'm ME again!  I look soooo handsome!"

I agree Buddy.  I agree.

Walking out to the car I told Kaeden I was proud of him, and happy that he didn't put up a fight about getting his hair cut.

His reply?

"I like it when the pretty girls cut my hair, Mom."

Oh really buddy?

Maybe I should keep you in that awkward hair stage a little longer, LADIES MAN.
