First Day of School 2012
This little fella started his second year of Preschool today.
We were very nervous for how his first day would go down.
He was starting a new school, and he and Jane weren't going to be at the same school this year.
All summer long we'd talk about his new school, and his anxiety would swell, he'd cry and cry, and tell us that he didn't want to go to his "new gool."
I was looking forward to attending the school's Welcome Back Orientation so that Kaeden could meet his teacher, see some of the other kids, and get acquainted with his new surroundings. Unfortunately though, Kaeden had a cold, and we had to stay home.
Lucky for us, the school allowed us to come by another day and have our own little one-on-one orientation. Kaeden was able to explore his classroom all by himself, get comfortable with his surroundings, and understand what was so come a little later in the week.
That visit proved invaluable.
Dropping him off on the first day, I was still really nervous and I could tell Kaeden was too. But he was putting on his brave face. The school has a drop off system where you pull up, and the teachers take the kids out of the car, and then you just drive off. I felt that this sort of drop off would be the worst thing for Kaeden's anxiety. I pictured him clawing his way to try stay in the car with me.
But he absolutely floored me.
When the door opened, he gave me a tear-filled glance and bravely jumped out of the car.
I have never been so proud.
My little anxiety-ridden boy had overcome one of the biggest obstacles in his life.
He's growing up just too, too fast. I'm so proud to be his mommy.
