Last Field Trip of the Year

As the end of the school year approaches, we had one final field trip today.  We visited Wheeler Farm [somewhere both Kaeden and Jane are very familiar with], and got a little preschooler guided tour.

Brady was stuck tagging along with both Jane and Cam since Meredith was home getting everything ready for Jane's birthday party.  It just so happened that our last field trip also landed on Jane's fourth birthday.

Isn't she the cutest birthday girl you've ever seen?

So yeah, we made lots of jokes about Brady and I being out on a play date with the kids.  I believe there was even talk about making a diet coke and D.I. run after.

The thing I love about Kaeden and Jane right now is that the two of them will find each other in a crowd, grab hands, and just go off in their own little world.  I couldn't find the two of them for a moment, and when I did, I found them wandering away from the class hand-in-hand.  I'm sure the two will never get married like Meredith and I joke, but I do know that they will have great memories as childhood friends.

After a little bit, the guided tour started.  The kids each took turns shaking a little container of cow's milk.  The idea was that at the end of the tour the kids will have made butter.  Well a bunch of 4 year-olds lost interest in shaking a small container quickly, so the poor tour lady did it the whole time.  Oh well.

It's at this point that Kaeden's anxiety started kicking in.  Notice him hanging back from the crowd?  He slowly made his way back to me.  I can't wait for the day when he can easily join his friends without any sort of fear.

For the next part of the tour the kids learned what a blacksmith was, and watched a real blacksmith make chain links.  I'll admit.  I was kind of impressed.

Here again we have Kaeden and Jane doing their own thing.  Love it.

The kids got to go into the area where they milk the cows.  Since the cows had been milked earlier in the morning, the kids just got an explanation of what happens and a chance to stick their head in the collars that keep the cows still.  As you can imagine, Kaeden wanted nothing to do with it.

The tour concluded with a tractor ride around the property.  If the squinty eyes didn't give it away, it was HOT!

We ended the field trip playing on the playground, eating lunch, and saying our goodbyes.

It's always fun at Wheeler Farm.
