Carter's First Birthday!

This little cutie turned one. A whole year. I cannot believe it.

But I can't say the usual, "it just went so fast!" While I still feel he is growing up fast, I also feel that time has slowed a bit during this past year. I was able to stop and enjoy motherhood a little more than I was able to during Kaeden's first year. Whether it be because Carter is my second, or my life is a lot less hectic, I just didn't feel the stress of OH MY GOSH! HE'S A WEEK OLD! HE'S A MONTH OLD! HE'S SIX MONTHS OLD! A YEAR!!! Instead I enjoyed each milestone. I looked forward to my little guy getting bigger, learning more, showing us more of his personality.

And personality he has.

To celebrate his big day we had friends and family over for a colorful first birthday.

I made tie-died cupcakes,

and decorated the house in as much color and memories of Carter's first year as I could.

Of course I had much more grand plans than what actually turned out, but hey. I'm human. And it would have probably only made a difference to me anyway.

I made Carter his own giant cupcake to tear into.

And while he was somewhat impressed with the candle,

he didn't exactly tear into the cake like we all thought he would.

I don't think he like the sugary frosting. When I finally gave up on him digging in, I may or may not have told him he's not his mother's child if he didn't willingly jump into a sweet treat sitting in front of him.

He'll learn.

What he was good at though was opening his gifts. And boy did he get spoiled!

I love that he's at an age where the camera is actually exciting to him, and he willingly poses. I know it will change, so for now I'm just snapping as often as I can. How cool is he in his new glasses?

I've been so blessed to have this sweet boy in my life for the past year.

And while his first year wasn't struggle free, there is no denying that the two of us got through each and every struggle together. He's a bit of a momma's boy. And that's okay with me.

From the first few days we spent together in the hospital, I knew the two of us were going to have a special bond.  A full year later...we most certainly do.
