Fire Shay-Shun

Today was a day of firsts.

Kaeden's first field trip.

His first time visiting a fire station,

and my first time joining my little guy on a field trip.

So fun.

Kaeden had been excited to visit the fire shay-shun for a couple of weeks.

It doesn't hurt that his best buddy Jane is in his class and gets to come too.

The trip started out with some songs and role playing put on by the firefighters.  It also involved a little bit of group participation.

Kaeden was not having it.

But, they got him up to participate anyway.

Doesn't he look like he is having the time of his life?  Needless to say...he's a little shy.

But then there was the part where the kids had to practice Stop, Drop, and Roll.

Jane dropped down and did it, so I think Kaeden figured he might as well.  His roll landed him almost right back where he started, but at least he wasn't on fire anymore, right?

During one part of the presentation, a firefighter came out in full gear and talked through a speaker in his mask.  I think the point was to show the kids that he wasn't scary even though he had all the gear on and sounded funny.

I'll be honest.  It was kind of freaky.  Notice Kaeden looking back at me like, "Mom?  You weirded out too?"

For the second half of the visit, the kids got to go back to see the firetrucks.

I freakin' love that Kade and Jane just naturally walk hand in hand.

The kids were given little firefighter hats.  Kade was pretty smitten with his.

Isn't Janer just a little poser?  Oh no.  It doesn't stop there.  Wait for it... Wait for it....

Bam!  Extreme hip action!  Love that little girl.

Kade took his turn driving the truck.

And then he and Jane did some more posing.  Wait for it.... Wait for it.....

Bam!  Extreme hip actin again!  I love how Kade is disinterested in the picture, but Jane is still hamming it up.

The outing ended with some class pictures on the bumper of the fire truck.  Seriously.  How cute are all those kids?

Future firefighters of America!
