This year we decided to keep things low key for Kaeden's birthday. After the big bash for his first birthday, I just decided I wasn't down for doing that again this year. I wanted it to be more of a family thing, with all the fun just focused on Kaeden and what makes him happy.
And what makes him happier than Elmo?
So I of course slaved over these Elmo cupcakes. They really weren't difficult, but being the perfectionist that I am, I thought they were too stupid to serve to anyone. Luckily I have a husband that has becomes quite the expert in talking me off the edge.
Looking back. I guess they turned out okay. But so help me if I ever have to try to make red frosting again...
Since we weren't having a big party, we went around and delivered cupcakes to our families. They appealed to adults too since the insides had yummy cookie dough!
The day after his birthday, Kaeden's cousins came over to wish him a happy birthday and to get some cupcakes.
He always loves it when he's got the big kids to play with.
Since year one is all about letting the child trash his own birthday cake, I figured this year would be the year Kaeden would be excited to actually blow out the candles.
Not so much.
But he did fake it for the camera for a second.
Later that night we met up with Kaeden's playdater Cole and my besties Jenn and Sean. We went to a local skating rink where they also have jungle gyms, bounce houses, games, etc.
Kaeden loved it. So much so that we decided that his birthday present would be a family summer pass.
He's a basically a pro at the bounce house.
The rides though, left him wanting a little more...
But don't worry. Kaeden's favorite person Allie was there too, so it was ALL GOOD.
The night was all about Kaeden. Or so you would think. That was until Sean and Jeff strapped on some blades and relived their glory days.
Such nerds. I'm pretty sure they were the only humans over the age of 13 out there.
But that didn't stop Jeff from pulling out all the stops. I had to draw the line at him trying to snowball. I kid.
Even the two year old were unimpressed.
I'm pretty sure Kaeden is thinking, "Um, yeah. That's my dad."
