My Husband Is the Luckiest Person I Know

Any woman who has a husband who owns an Xbox knows what an evil device those things are.

They are time-suckers.

They are project-ruiners.

They keep you husband up until 3 a.m. on work nights.

Basically, they make marriages suck.

Okay, maybe those are just my complaints.

One night after waking up to get a drink of water at the wee hours of the morning,  I notice Jeff was still playing his Xbox.   I went to the living room and gave him my usual, "Ugh.  Are you kidding me?!?"  Then went back to bed.

Just as I was drifting off to sleep, Jeff comes back to the bedroom and says, "What, did you put some kind of hex of me or something?"

I gave him the obvious, "What are you talking about, weirdo?" look.  To which he says, "Not even 30 seconds after you left the room, my Xbox got the red rings of death."

THE RED RINGS OF DEATH!

Oh what, you don't immediately know what those are?  Ask any Xbox officiando.  They do.

Basically the red rings of death mean that your Xbox is having some sort of internal failure (generally relating to overheating) from which your Xbox will basically NEVER recover from.

MUAHAHAHAHA!!

I was loving it.  We don't have enough cash flow right now for Jeff to run out and replace his Xbox.  Both his birthday and Christmas are eons away.  I AM GOING TO HAVE MY HUSBAND BACK.

Jeff realized all these things too, so the next few weeks were filled with him fervently studying online videos and tutorials telling him how to fix the red rings of death by himself.

It also filled our house with scenes like these:

What's that? you might ask.

Well it's full on geek squad emergency surgery y'all!

Right.

One day Jeff comes up to me and tells me that on one of the websites with tutorials there was a drawing for a free Xbox setup. He told me that on a whim he entered himself into the drawing, but now he was regretting it because ever since then his email inbox had been flooded with junk mail.

You live, you learn, right?

Wrong.

You are the luckiest brat in the history of the world.

A couple of weeks after Jeff had told me he entered the drawing, he got a call from his mom saying that there was a box at her house for him.

Since we had previously had some of our business deliveries dropped at her house while we were out of town, he figured that there was just another delivery that had been made to the old address.

A half hour later he returns with the biggest grin on his face.

He had won the Xbox.

My marriage was back to being crappy. Joy.

Apparently Jeff had put his parents address down when he entered the drawing as to avoid junk mail coming to our house. One problem. Now he had to admit that to his parents in order to explain why an Xbox showed up at their house for him.  Awkward!

And it wasn't just any old Xbox. It was an upgrade from his old one, plus a bunch of extras.

I'm not too happy that all our good luck for the year went towards and Xbox. Jeff on the other hand, definitely was.

The kicker?  He couldn't even remember where he had entered the drawing to at least drop them a thank you.

Boys.

So funny. You enter these sort of things never expecting to win. Don't you wish it was you with like, the HGTV dream house or something? At least you didn't have to spend the money on all of this stuff, b/c you know, eventually, he would get another one. This way you didn't have to pay for it!

I miss you, Ashley! I'm going to come sometime in October or November and we seriously need a get together. Seriously. I hope your doing alright.
