The Flood

Do you know what is the best part about buying a home with a fully finished basement?

Having the basement flood so now it's only like a 75% finished basement.  Yay!

We had some freak rainstorms today that overwhelmed our rain gutters which in turn overwhelmed our drain in our walkout and filled all of our window wells with water.

Jeff called me at work.and said he noticed a little water had come in from under the door, but figured we could just suck it out with our carpet cleaner.

When I came home I got to sucking...and sucking...and sucking.  I felt like I was going no where, so I called over some friends who run a disaster cleanup company.

They kind of laughed at my attempts to suck all the water out myself.  Water had seeped in and ran to nearly every area of the basement.  Under walls, etc.

They immediately ripped up all the carpet and started bagging all the padding.

14 air dryers later, we're on our way to a water free basement.  After drilling about a hundred holes through our drywall, they think having the machines run for four days will clear everything up. Unfortunately none of it will be covered by insurance.  It's just a freak think that will probably never happen again in 100 years.  We are lucky to have great friends who helped us out for cost though.

Luckily we didn't really have anything in our basement to get destroyed.  Just the walls and padding.  The carpet will probably be salvageable.

Ugh.  Homeownership.  Rain.  Ugh.
