Don't you hate it when you see that on one of your favorite blogs? It seems like everyone goes private. I have no room to talk since I started out private, but I've been thinking lately....should I go public?
I've had a lot of fun stalking other people's blogs and getting new e-bff's [kindred spirits as I like to call you]. It's awkward being the private one because if you leave a comment on a blog you've been stalking, you then also have to send an invite to your blog just to feel like you are playing fair. But then is that wierd? The other person may not be interested in your blog at all. What if they are like, "Why is the random person sending me an invite?" I've pondered a lot lately and have thought about going public. I'd have to go back and clean up a few of my past posts [i.e. delete] just in case some people I may have previously offended under the veil of privacy happen to come across my blog [yes I'm a passive-aggressive with a streak of paranoia].
So I was wondering if any of you public personas have had any "problems" with your public blogs. Leave a comment and let me know about your experience. I'm feeling like I'm missing out on all that the wonderful world of blogging can bring to me [i.e. endorsment deals. ha! I kid.] And as you know, no one likes to feel left out.

Going Private

funny that you've been thinking about going public! i've been thinking about going private! i had someone on my blog two days ago from arizona for 4 HOURS! and they never commented! holy creepy! i kind of want the privacy, but i've also had a lot of old friends find me through google, etc. i used to be SO paranoid about the idea of being public and posting pictures of my family and then one day i decided that i didn't care. for all i know some random stalker could be taking my picture every time i leave the house. if someone's going to be creepy... they'll find a way, no matter if you're public or private. if you do go public, you can choose not to share your profile or be listed with any google searches. and then you can install sitemeter or statcounter to see who's visiting you and how they got to your blog.
are you planning on going to the meet + greet?
This is so funny! Before I got to this point in your blog, I was thinking about how I really dislike private blogs. And it's really for no reason other than I forget to check them. Google Reader has made me lazy, and you can't put private blogs on there.
So then this happens, where I remember to come to your blog, and you have 45 new posts up.
I've actually been surprised that I haven't had more problems with my blog, considering that it's readership has grown considerably. And I even allow anonymous comments! I've only had one anonymous comment that was nasty, and I erased it and blocked their IP address. AND I have my full name on it!
Honestly, I like public blogs, but I understand why people feel the need to be private.
What does annoy me is that there are times when I can see that someone has added me to their blogroll because I get people coming from a certain blog, but it's private, and I have no idea who they are, and I can't email them to contact them. In fact, I think that's how Amber found you.
I've had people hang out on my blog for long periods of time too without commenting. But I can't go private because I have a lot of family in China who look at my blog and can't sign in because they have absolutely no english or computer skills.
Going public isn't bad. I don't allow anonymous posts though. I had a few that were ridiculous, as they always are, so I deleted them and stopped allowing them. I think you need to go public, because like Kristina, Google Reader has made me lazy and I've missed some of your posts because it won't let me add private blogs to it.
However... I would like to blog about an experience we had with a neighbor yesterday, but a lot of people in my ward read my blog. I think if it were private, I could whine a little more about people that bother me. :p
