My Makeover!

For awhile I have wanted to go have one of those makeovers at the mall to get some new makeup, learn new tricks, and get an overall new "look." For Christmas I told Jeff that is what I wanted to to, and I figured it was good timing since the pregnancy frumps are just around the bend (some days I already feel they are already here!).

I really like the MAC brand of cosmetics. It's generally only carried in Nordstrom stores, but I've seen it popping up here and there. In Utah, we only have it in Nordstrom though. Anyway, MAC is known for it's wild colors (among many "normal" colors), it's crazy way of making yourself up, etc. The people who work there are supposed to be super "edgy" (read "in style"-more than you and me). I really like the cosmetics, but dread making an appointment because it is a joke getting in. First of all, you can't just walk up to the counter to get in. You have to make an appointment, usually 3 weeks in advance. When you arrive, you never know who you are going to get. Sometimes its the freaky guy with blue eyeshadow going out to his temples, or the really emo girl who looks like she's best friends with death. And on top of that, the counter is always so busy, you can't even get anyone to pay attention to you. When I go there to quickly restock something I've run out of, it can easily take 20 mins to get some help. Long story short....I haven't been looking forward to making that initial appointment.

Then comes our perfectly timed trip to Vegas. We were there on a Sun, Mon, Tues, so the malls weren't crazy. The Nordstrom MAC Counter in Vegas was huge. It wasn't even a counter--it was a department. On top of that, I felt that the MAC artists in Vegas were bound to be far superior than those Utah wannabes. Wouldn't you think a company would send their best to somewhere like Vegas or NY? Not SLC. Anyway, I walk in and ask them if they might have any appointments. The girl I talked to sat me right down and went to work. I told her I needed a new look, and that I really wanted something that make my eyes stand out. I wanted it to be slightly natural, but also something that you could tell I put effort into my morning getting ready.
This is usually the spiel I give, andI never know what the results will be--yet I feel obligated to buy some of the product regardless. I loved this girl doing my make-up. She was so friendly, and actually originated from Utah. Come to find out afterwards, she is the assistant manager of MAC there. She did such a good job, I bought nearly every product she used on me, and tomorrow I am going to visit the local MAC store to purchase some of the brushes. I even joked with Jeff that the makeup made my bad-hair day look better. Below are the results. Sorry for the extreme closeup-crazy-faced pics (for some reason this angle makes my nose look like one of those huge-nosed monkeys!). Our hotel room didn't have much light, so Jeff was trying to get full use out of the flash to really highlight the makeup. Tell me those blue eyes don't stand out! Now hopefully I won't have a hard time recreating the masterpiece! :)
